Gilding Course

 

This four day course explores the many decorative possibilities of oil and water gilding, during which the students will practise different techniques and decorate a frame, including the glass.

The course starts with preparing surfaces for water gilding with gesso and boles, including decorative gesso techniques such as incising, punching, pastiglia, putty modelling and carving.

For oil and acrylic gilding we will use an assortment of objects including leather, slate and shells.

The students will learn how to handle gold and silver, both in loose leaf and transfer form, and to gild glass for verre Eglomise.

 We will finish with burnishing and ways to distress, tone and glaze the gold.
